Digital photography is very easy to learn, however if you haven’t yet worked with a digital camera and you’re just transitioning now from a 35mm camera to a digital one, there are a few things you need to be aware of so you can learn to take pictures with ease.

The first thing you need to be aware of is that no books or articles will teach you as much as you can learn by yourself by simply practicing. The only way you really become a seasoned or even a professional photographer is by tinkering with your camera and taking shots of everything around you, including scenery, people, pets, still images, profiles, etc.

However you will need to read through your camera manual since that will get you started in learning all about your camera’s technical aspects. This will also give you an idea of the limitations but also of the potentials of your own digital camera.

When it comes to the memory card, nowadays there are some really big sizes and they are not expensive so you can really get a sizable one which will also allow you to take videos if you so choose.

In addition, to take good pictures you need a tripod unless you’re always on the move when you take your shots. This is especially useful to help you keep your hands still while taking the pictures. The camera needs to be completely still while shooting.

Following proper lighting guidelines will help you along the way. If you want to take shots of silhouettes, you can do so if the sun is behind the subject. Some people like rim lighting which allows them to have the sun effectively light up the hair of the person from the side.

Learn all about the macro mode of your camera as it will come in handy many times. If you want to take images of small things, such as small critters or a jewelry piece, the macro mode is indispensable for taking the shots.

There are many tips that you can use to learn about digital photography but nothing is better than simply going out there with your camera and start taking the shots at any occasion you have.
